Modig Fitness Member Profile – Ryan Parnell

  1. Where did you grow up? Tomball Texas, it’s a little suburb of Houston, Texas.
  2. How long have you been Cross Fitting? Six months officially but have been lifting weights etc., most my life.
  3. What is your favorite WOD and why? Anything with lifting, but probably Grace.
  4. What’s your favorite lift and why? It’s hard to give a favorite but probably the clean and jerk because it is a relatively new skill for me.
  5. What’s your least favorite CrossFit move and why? Double-unders! The “why” is obvious when you watch me attempt them. Have to admit burpees run a close second, the “why” is obvious when you do them.
  6. What do you think is the biggest myth about CrossFit? Not sure if it’s a myth, but the perception when I talk to people about CrossFit is that it’s just a really hard workout. CrossFit is more though; it’s strategy, athleticism, ability, courage, humility, learning new skills, determination on a number of levels, and a sense of community. It’s hard to put into words how all of that relates to each other, so you just have to come in and experience it.
  7. What’s your favorite non-Cross Fit activity? Spending time with my beautiful wife of 18 years, Geena, and my daughter Emma.    IMG_0240 unknown
  8. What is your nickname? No nick name, but growing up playing football no one calls you by any other name but your last. I didn’t discover I had a first name until my twenties.
  9. What do you do for a living? I’m a tire guy and have been with Discount Tire for 18 years, great company.  If you want to know our story read “6 Tires No Plan.”
  10. What’s something about you that people probably don’t know? I do Yoga, although flexibility is not my strength.
  11. If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be? Grilled chicken breast and sweet potatoes.
  12. What was the last book you read? The Speed of Trust: The One Thing That Changes Everything” by Stephen M.R. Covey.
  13. What impact has Cross Fit had on your life?  I feel better and probably in the best all around shape of my life. I was lifting weights at the rec-center and had a tendency to neglect any cardiovascular, flexibility, balance, and range of motion work. The result was feeling stiff and slow. Modig gives you the best variety of fitness disciplines in a much shorter amount of time.
