It’s back to school time! With summer slowly coming to a close, we want to lift your spirits with inspiring stories from within our Modig Fitness community! Today we bring you the Member Profile for Brian Weberg, a regular in our 6am CrossFit class. Brian is not only an all around “good dude,” but he’s an example of how hard work and determination (and time) can turn about some great results! Read on to learn more about Brian. And stayed tuned for an upcoming transformation story on longtime Modigger Jack Kuskie. You won’t want to miss it 🙂
- Where did you grow up? I lived a few different places before ending back up in Colorado. I was born in Arlington, TX but only lived there a few years as a child before moving to Cheyenne, WY. Went to college in Greeley, CO at the University of Northern Colorado before moving to NYC for 6 years. Met my wife, Megan, in NYC and was able to convince her to move to Denver. 🙂
- How long have you been Cross-Fitting? I started CrossFit a little over a year ago. Like most, I had seen the CrossFit Games and heard people talk about it, but was always apprehensive to try it out personally. I’m not really sure why I didn’t give it a go earlier! I found that I was bored by the normal routine of going to the local gym, running on a treadmill and trying to motivate myself to go through the standard chest, arm, leg days. Finally, I decided to just give it a go and found Modig Fitness and never looked back. Now I try to make a class at least 4 times a week!
- What is your favorite WOD? I tend to like the long grinders and also the Hero WOD’s. They are really hard and suck in the moment, but I always feel so accomplished when I finish!
- What’s your favorite lift? Right now my favorite is the Clean & Jerk. Before CrossFit, I had not done a Clean & Jerk since probably High School Football!
- What’s your least favorite CrossFit move? I would have to say box jumps only because when you get tired and lose focus that box will jump out at you and take a chunk off your chin or shin!
- What do you think is the biggest myth about CrossFit? I am not sure this is necessarily a myth. When I started I guess I really didn’t know what to expect but I was pleasantly surprised how nice and welcoming everyone was. No one cares if you can’t do a pull-up or you decide not to Rx a workout as long as you give your all at whatever the lift or WOD is scheduled for that day.
- What’s your favorite non-CrossFit activity? Obviously my favorite non-CrossFit activity is hanging out with my wife!!!! During the summer we try to be outside most of the time. I enjoy golfing (when I can hit straight), playing pick-up soccer, BBQs, and beer and lawn games.
- How have your nutritional habits changed since starting CrossFit? My wife saw David’s (Modig Fitness’s Owner|Head Coach) Facebook a few months back about prepping meals for the week. So we went to Amazon, bought the portioned food containers, and now cook dinner for the week on Sunday mornings. That’s definitely not something I had done in the past.
- What’s your nickname? My basketball coach from Jr. High School called me Weebee. Growing up I was friends with two other Brian’s so that stuck. Then we got lazy and couldn’t say two syllables, so my nickname was shortened to Weebs.
- What do you do for a living? I am a nerdy Accountant.
- What’s something about you that people don’t know? I swam in the the Hudson River in NYC 3 times when I completed the NYC Trialthon and unfortunately did not develop any super human powers. I also ran the NYC Marathon once before I was forced into early retirement. 20 mile training runs are not fun!
- How has CrossFit impacted your life? I actually look forward to working out again. The typical gyms became boring and working out was a chore! I look forward to waking up and going to the gym and seeing the 6amers, and obviously seeing what shirt Darryl decided to wear for the day :/
